10 Little Reasons...

There are a few bloggers out there who occasionally produce lists to remind us of the smaller and sometimes sweetest things we experience in life, to remind us not to forget to seek pleasure and fulfilment from the things you might think don't even matter. I have decided to create my own series to try and engage more positive thinking within myself (and maybe others too!). I've chosen to call the series 10 Little Reasons... . "10 little reasons to do what?" you might ask. Well, that's up to you, smile / keep going / laugh / skip / whatever you like!
  • When my Nan buys me mangoes. I don't know where she gets them from but mangoes acquired through Nan are always the best.
  • The lady who sat next to me on the bus, openly giggling into her phone out loud all the way home. 
  • More than one day off work in a row. 
  • Fresh bedsheets.
  • Dusk.
  • Helen Anderson's daily vlogs
  • Cutting your nails and realising how easy texting is again.
  • Bei Badgirl's merbunnies and merkitties. Squee!
  • Watching Small Animal Hospital on Netflix. 
  • Especially when John Barrowman gets excited / cracks himself up for no reason and visibly scares people.

Weigh In: Down 6lbs

So, I've been working hard at this new healthy lifestyle for about nine days now and I'm really starting to feel the benefits. I have more energy, I'm more optimistic, my waistline feels smaller and even though it's probably not yet noticeable to the observer, my clothes fit better. I'm down 6lbs from my start weight of 206lbs (or 11lbs down from my heaviest weight of 211lbs) and I'm super proud and pleased with my progress. I know it's not just about counting numbers, but I am the type of person who is more successful if they can measure their progress, so I'm afraid it simply has to be a numbers game for me right now. I can't just go by how I feel. I need concrete evidence so that I know it's real!

Six pounds might seem like a bit too much over such a short period but it's a combination of simply having it to lose and the fact that I generally have quite an active lifestyle. I work as bartender so I'm on my feet, moving and lifting things most of the day, I also can't drive so I tend to walk more than most who drive do, even if it's only to and from bus stops etc. Because I am so active, I could never actually fathom why I was so heavy but now I know my calorie intake was excessive (sorry about bringing numbers into it again). My Fitness Pal has really lived up to its name in helping work out exactly what is the right amount my body needs and has helped my stop mindlessly snacking on all the treats we constantly have knocking around at work (fries, cheese, chocolate, cake, beer, all the best stuff).

It's pretty simple, I guess! Although tonight I couldn't resist splitting a doughnut brownie with one of the guys. But as I always say; deprivation is not an act of love. Sometimes you just have to let yourself have the brownie!

Suicide Squad Review

I took a little trip to the cinema to see Suicide Squad on Sunday (managed to bypass all the popcorn and nachos (mainly because I was running super late because of Bank Holiday traffic and missed the first 5 minutes but that's counts right?)). It's perhaps because I went in with very low expectations after the way the internet reacted to Suicide Squad that I didn't consider it so bad, or maybe it's because I know basically nothing about comics or DC and knew little of the heresy I observed. I thought it was alright?

It wasn't incredible, but for me that's partly because I got pretty bored of the whole superhero/ comic book movie thing about three years ago. They're all the same to me, sorrry (not sorry). And it's partly because there were scenes I still don't understand the purpose of, plot holes the size of the sun at every turn and the whole thing kind of played out like beating levels on a video game? Which I found weird. Amanda seemed pretty safe in her tower, why didn't they just leave her there and go straight in for The Enchantress? How did Deadshot read a thick ring binder full of secret info in 0.4 seconds? What was The Enchantress doing while El Diablo was battering her brother? Why did they have time to stop for a drink?! This list is too long.

A lot of people either complained about the lack of Joker's presence in the movie or about the glamorisation of his (abusive) relationship with Harley Quinn. It seems that people over looked how much Harley Quinn's character shines within the film, she is almost its one saviour. She's hilarious, sexy, believable and the strong female lead a lot of superhero movies are crying out for; she soldiers on even though she thinks the Joker is dead and even sacrifices potentially being reunited with him to save the whole world! This bitch don't need no man, even though she really loves him / was electrocuted into loving him (which apparently isn't how it goes in the books).

All in all I think it was an alright movie, I guess people were just upset by its potential to have been great.

*I also really liked the ethnic diversity within the cast and extras.

As already established, the internet can be an inspirational place for all manner of things if you look in the right places. So each week(ish) I'm going to share with you all the cute, amazing, beautiful and inspiring (CABI) things I've found about the web. I shall bequeath onto you my little treasures that have kept me going and maybe even smiling (I don't smile). Going to keep the first week's nice and simple with a few easy ones:

  • This complete beginners yoga video from Yoga with Adrienne has been my absolute LIFE to begin the process of strengthening my weak ass arm muscles. Yoga is the perfect practice accompany you on your journey to self love, as it helps to centre the mind and allows you to tune into your body and explore its movements.

  • This excellent pin that smashes the struggles of resting bitch face by just giving you something to point at while you werk that nasty pout/scowl thang.

Food Haul

Risotto rice, 0% fat natural yoghurt, bananas, raspberries, green beans, peas, cherry tomatoes, eggs, wholewheat pasta, spinach, sweet potato, Linda McCartney vegetarian sausages, coriander, English muffins.

I have chosen to begin a journey towards self love and I'm going to take you guys along with me, kicking and screaming (with joy, hopefully). I can only learn to love myself if I begin to do things that show my body and mind that I love those guys i.e. engaging in more exercise and nourishing myself with good food so that I can grow stronger, more flexible and more confident. This does not mean I will forbid myself indulgences into the supposed Dark Side along the way (cake, cheese, beer, pizza holla at your girl homies, I still feel ya) because I think the "naughty" things are too good to be deprived of; deprivation is not an act of love.

So today I'm just going to share with you the first food haul of my new life; full of fresh fruit and veggies. This in total cost me around £14 for the week which proves healthy doesn't necessarily mean overdraft crippling. Due to my busy lifestyle and erratic work schedule I find myself eating a lot of rubbish on the go so I'm probably actually saving money. I am going to prove to myself that with a few moments planning each week I don't actually need to have 3 Kitkat chunkies, a cheese pretzel and a bag of spiral Cheetos for lunch everyday (even though it's great).
